In 2009, I embarked on a trip to visit the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Accompanying me were my mum, aunt, and grandma, whose parents were born on ‘the rock’.

We landed in St. John’s on a rainy July day after a red-eye flight. After a couple days there, we started driving west. Our itinerary took us to Carbonear, Trinity, Glovertown, Gander, Corner Brook, and Woody Point.

My highlight was visiting Woody Point, a tiny town in stunning Gros Morne National Park where my great-grandmother was born. It was incredibly special being there with my grandmother in the town where her mum was born and grew up.
